Great video. There seems to be a lot of confusion on the internet, on how Franks Sawyers tied his nymphs. Sadly, some of the materials are hard to come by. Here I think of the Chadwick yarn of course, but also goose feathers in the right shade.

I'm looking and learning so I can make eighth quarter and 1/16 ounce b7ck tail flies. Actually some from my mini wire haired schnauzer as well. You sir are an artist snd thank you do much for sharing. Tight lines bro.

Wow! Michael, Ulla, you two do so many things and do them very, very well. This video's level of professionalism rivals those big time producers that you mention and I also love to watch. I see that close to shore activity quite frequently while fishing Oneida Lake in May for walleye as schools of Emerald Shiners, what we locally call "buckeyes", follow the rocky shoreline. Their bodies glisten holographic as they turn in the current then disappear only to show their eyes and lateral line of their semi transparent white bellies. Awesome video guys, thank you!

Nice one Michael! I tie all my small nymphs pretty much the same way as that using natural furs off the hide. Pre-cut dubbing is convenient, but being able to cut a clump of fur off the hide and control the amount of guard hairs and underfur is best. As you showed - tails, dubbing and dubbing loop - essentially the whole fly from one material. Looking forward to the next fly in this series! Cheers!

For all the people who never see their flies wet, from the fishes point of view, a big thank you for posting these type of videos Michael and Ulla! I kept hoping to see a big trout swoop in and grab the fly 😁 I have a fly test tank and an underwater camera that I use to inspect new patterns and material behavior, so these types of images are very familiar to me. I was more watching the color and flash of the fly to see how it showed against the background. Noticed thar all the flies were of similar materials/construction. You might want to do videos showing how different materials - soft (marabou/fox), stiff (squirrel/bucktail), various synthetics and the effects of sparce vs dense dressing has on how the fly swims. Think that would benefit your viewers. Above and beyond different sizes to match the seasonal growth of the forage species, I often tie the imitation in a variety of styles, materials, weights and dressings for different fishing situations. Minnows will often be feeding close to the surface early/late in the day and close to the bottom at other times. Different weights/dressing are required to match the depth and behavior. A "Muddler" full style (buoyant) dressing for surface feeders and a sparse (weighted) "Clouser" style for when the minnows are foraging for chironomids on the bottom - the predators are always close to their food source. Great theories eh? Sometimes, I even guess everything right and have a great day on the water - most of the time, it's just a fun day out 😉 Cheers!

Oh man! When he was dropping all those bags of beautiful dubbing... It was like watching diamonds falling from heaven. Started giving me dirty thoughts, like rolling around in a big pile of those bags, throwing it in the air like gold! Fly fishing erotic videos LoL

I love buggy, "bad hair day" flies Michael. I love this series! My fly tying started using hair off the hide. Dubbing loops rule, so many things can be put in them, lots of different ways to make the loops. Gary Borger had a post on his website quite awhile ago on several different ways to make loops. In fact I tied a cool pattern, I think from him, that used scrap marabou in a loop tied much the same way you tied this sculpin. Instead of bead chain I knotted peacock herl and tied each knot in for eyes. The final step is a rough trim, with a bulbous head and a narrowed down neck. The body, from the neck to tail, is trimmed to a rough carrot taper to the tail. I imagine the bulbous head creates a vortex and those rough patches wave and pulse in the current. I used black marabou, and when I cast it upstream from a very deep hole, the pattern disappeared into the blackness. I slowing retrieved it, finally I saw a rippling black image that looked alive. It could represent a dragon fly nymph, leech, or minnow. I'll have to try a hair version like your sculpin. Thank you both for these great videos!

I got my first ABUMATIC in 1967 , a ABUMATIC 41 and serval months later a GARCIA ABUMATIC 141 ; the only ever made left hand wind ABUMATIC reels in,,stand up on rod " position . This reels fix very good to the ABU & ARJON rods with Baitcaster reel grips and are still my favorit reel - rod combination for perch , pike , trout and salomon spinn fishing .

Nice meal! Nothing like a shore lunch of fresh fish, beer and good company eh? I fish for "game fish" (bass, walleye, pike) for fun and release them. When I want a meal of fish, I go after crappies, perch, bluegills, sunfish, and rockbass (usually with wet flies, nymphs or micro-streamers) They all fit perfectly in a pan - which is probably why they are called "pan fish" 😁 Cheers!
